Calm before the storm

It happens: on a hot afternoon,
suddenly, clouds hang menacingly,
will become stuffy and anxious,
as if rushing with a mountain steep.

As if, suddenly, inexplicably,
the heart will rarely beat,
and freeze for half a second,
like a bird in a cramped cage.

The sun will hide reliably
cold will pull from the river,
wind, as if, carefully,
instantly, blows out the candle light.
