The main cathedral of Sofia and Bulgaria stands on Alexander Nevsky Square and amazes with its complex architecture and impressive appearance. This is a huge cathedral, capable of accommodating up to five thousand believers simultaneously. It was erected in honor of the liberation of Bulgaria during the Russian-Turkish war.
Russian masters took part in the construction of the church, and the St. Petersburg architect, professor of the Academy of Arts A. Pomerantsev became the author of the architectural project.
The temple of Alexander Nevsky built in neo-Byzantine style.
Neo-Byzantine (sometimes pseudo-Byzantine) style is one of the trends in the architecture of the period of historicism, which arose in Western Europe in the 1840s.
