Building a high-rise building in a swamp is a bold decision.

At the time of construction, there are still a lot of dilapidated wooden buildings in Dorogomilovo, especially in the depths of the neighborhoods. At the place where the hotel stands today there used to be a swamp, the place was often flooded. The project of the largest hotel in Europe was created by a group of famous architects: A.G. Mordvinov, P.A. Krasilnikov, co-authors V.G. Kalish, V.K. Oltarzhevsky. In total, more than 2,000 people worked on various details of the project.
The hotel interiors were decorated with works of famous Russian artists and sculptors: A. Deineka, Kukryniksy, D. Nalbandyan, V. Polenov and others. The collection of the Ukraina Hotel included 1,256 paintings and 57 sculptures. Also in the hall there is a unique diorama “Moscow - the capital of the USSR”, which was created specifically for the New York exhibition in 1977.
One of the prominent statesmen P. A. Stolypin (1862-1911) looks at this wide Moscow panorama, opening through the space of Freedom Square of Russia, from the height of the pedestal. A courageous man in making difficult decisions, implementing large-scale projects and personal courage, he survived 10 assassination attempts in 5 years, the 11th interrupted his life.
