Biography


IVAN KOMISSAROV (1929, Yabloneviy Gay village, Saratov region - 2009, Samara). A well-known Russian Soviet landscape artist. Owner of the title "Peoples Artist of the Russian Federation". In 1944-48 he studied in Penza Art Workshop in a studio of I. Goryushkin-Sorokopudov. He became a member of the All-Soviet Union of Artists in 1964 and a Distinguished Artist of the Russian Federation in 1976. In 1950-60s Komissarov worked in the style of Soviet impressionism; in later years he became a prominent member of the Vladimir school of the Russian art. His works were featured on numerous republican and All-Soviet art exhibitions; and were also included in exhibitions representing the Soviet art in Finland, West Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Great Britain, USA, Canada, Lebanon, Venezuela, Singapore, and Japan. Dozens of his personal exhibitions include major ones in Moscow (1990), St.-Petersburg (1991) and Seoul (1993). Komissarov’s works are on display in museums in Krasnodar, Samara, Tver’, Novosibirsk and Yakutsk, in the Embassy of Russian Federation in Washington DC, in Russian National Airline Aeroflot office in Switzerland and in galleries Gekkoso (Japan) and Mazzolini (Italy) and in numerous private collections in Russia and abroad.
