The building was built in 1800 for the princes Shcherbatovs under the project of Osip Bove.
In 1816 the house was rebuilt and handed over to the "Petrovsky barracks".
Since 1842 the building passes into the jurisdiction of the gendarmerie.
Since 1917, the former "Petrovsky Barracks" housed the famous Moscow Criminal Investigation Department.
Currently, the building at Petrovka, 38 is under the jurisdiction of the GU MVD RF in the city of Moscow.
