Hodegetria is one of the most common types of images of the Mother of God with the Child Christ in Orthodox icon painting. According to legend, the first image of the Mother of God Hodegetria was painted by the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke.
"Theotokos Odigitria", also called "Hilandar Akathistnaya", is a Serbian Orthodox icon from 1260-1270, kept in the sacristy of the Hilandar monastery on Mount Athos, Greece, where it (possibly) came from Byzantium. It is an iconic decoration of the Catholicon (the main church of the monastery).
Embroidered "Theotokos" of a special, unique design by Thea Gouverneur, a design that repeats the original, where even vertical scuffs completely coincide, in front of which it is impossible not to stop.
The icon of the Mother of God "Hodegetria" is amazing, touching, radiant. Peace and tranquility literally flows from her. The look of the Mother of God is impressive - it is sad from the knowledge of the future sufferings of Christ. The Lord looks with love and attention.
The image belongs to one of the varieties of the iconographic type of the Mother of God Hodegetria (Guidebook). This variety in Greek is called "Dexioratus" ("Right-handed"), since the Christ Child sits on the right hand of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Although the icon is seriously damaged, its artistic value is recognized.
Frame: flashing + frame (slag metal with imitation of aged bronze).
Glass: anti-reflective.
