Biography

Klim Nikiforovich Chursin (1926-1991) was born on October 10 in Lugansk. As a teenager he met the war, survived the occupation. At the end of 1944 he was mobilized, participated in the hostilities with Japan. He met the victory in the Far East. He stayed in the Soviet army as a “over-term person, ” and completed his military service in the border troops at Kamchatka.
He was a self-taught artist. Since 1980 he was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Reproductions of his works were published in “Soviet Literature” magazine in Spanish, Czech, and Slovak. The last years of his life he worked in the Armavir branch of the Krasnodar Art Creative and Production Combine (Art Fund of Russia). He participated in all-Union, republican and zonal exhibitions. His personal exhibitions were held in 1965, 1966 and 1967 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and in the 1980’s in Armavir.
In 2006 in Krasnodar, the album, named “Kuban’s masters of fine art: paintings and drawings”, that was created for professionals and collectors, was published. Several works of Klim Chursin were presented in it.
The last personal exhibition was held in Krasnodar state Art Museum of F.A. Kovalenko, where best 50 works of K. N. Chursin were presented. This event was widely covered in local magazines and on TV.
The works presented in the catalog are part of huge creative heritage of K.N. Chursin. The geography of his artistic routes is long - from Kamchatka to the Baltic. As soon as the opportunity arose, he went to plain-air’s in different parts of Russia, and if there were several free hours, he went out with a sketchbook easel to the city or to the countryside. His work is distinguished by a deep awareness of the connection between man and the world, understanding of his place and his path in it. Each landscape reflects the mutual influence of the pristine natural principle and the creative activity of people, which inevitably changes the surrounding landscape. A complete collection of the author’s works (and there are more than a thousand) is the only large-scale reflection of the country known from the sixties and eighties of the last century, concentrated in one place (one hand).
