The trans-surreal method allows us to give the image of one of the most revered saint among Christians - the protector of the Orthodox armies special expressiveness. Drawing and color are equal and organize the image rhythmically and compositionally. Dynamic rhythms run through the composition. The fiery mane of the horse, as if blazing up canvas, symbolizes ardent faith, because of St. George became famous. The image of a horse attached picture tint of romanticism unexpected for iconographic plot and resembles the image of horses at the paintings of grandees of French Romanticism Eugene Delacroix. Note that the canonical color of the horse in the image of St. George is white or otherwise, silver, and raincoat of the rider usually painted with blue only, the serpent is black almost always. However, in this work horse and rider are bright blue, and the serpent is red.
The combination with the red-yellow background it makes the picture particularly
temperamental in color. Sculptural solidity and "two-dimensionality" inherent in
A. Semushin’s works, in this work are more than appropriate, due to this the needed pathos, monumental solemnity befitting this story are reached. The artist masterfully solves the problem to show movement in two-dimensional space. The modeling of volumes on the scenic plane, devoid of depth performed exquisitely.
