In the range of paintings A.Semushin made courageous attempts to paint difficult icon-like images by transsurrealistic method. In this work evangelic event is illustrated – Annunciation of Archangel Gabriel to Virgin Maria about future birth of Jesus Christ from her. This time, Archangel Gabriel told: “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women”
It is impossible to be in denial that, despite this image is far from canonical requirements, special mood and feeling of mystery, ceremonialism of what is going on, presents on the painting and takes viewers away from ignoramus, usual. In particular, this effect is achieved by “static dynamics” of angel who, talking to the Virgin, is depicted like hanging in the air unmoving. Local color of background and simplified figures gives the painting special classinest. It is remarkable that at the same time with transsurrealistic simplicity of images the accentuated reserved laconism and noble plastics express solemnity of the moment. It is also interesting that the artist takes into account the color symbolic as well – in paintings of Western Europe exactly blue is the color of the Virgin.
