This work made in the style of expressionism as well as the paintings “Van Gogh with a Bandage” and “Card-players” is not occasional in trans-surrealistic exposition. A.Semushin uses a lot of artistic techniques, stylistic figures, types of artistic imagery
characteristic of expressionism in his trans-surrealistic works. We are talking of striving to increase emotionality and expressiveness by means of grotesque and hyperbole when acute expression of author’s idea and artistic generalization of a certain phenomenon are achieved by intended exaggeration and willful distortion of real world forms, by conventionality and stylization. At the same time subjective interpretation depicts the reality in a more fine and deep manner and attributes to more objective reflection of inner nature of the things portrayed. Abandoned painterly illusionary space, striving to plane interpretation of objects, their deformation, sharp colour contrasts and spatial shifts, colour and figurative spatial
dissonances – all these techniques characteristic of trans-surrealism are also taken from expressionism which is demonstrated so well in the “Card-players”. “The talk at the yellow table» is notable due to the fact that despite stylization the artist replaces the real world with his creation of an artistic world in such a subtle manner that one gets used to it quickly – after a few minutes of communication with the painting it seems that what is depicted is the reality. This technique is also used in trans-surrealism.
