Monastery in honour of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the theologian is situated on the right Bank of the Oka river, near the village of Ïîùóïîâî Rybnovskij district, Ryazan region, 25 km away from the town of Ryazan, and is one of the oldest in the Ryazan diocese.
Monastic tradition relates the appearance of the monastery by the end of XII-beginning of XIII century. It is believed that its founders were the monks and missionaries, who came to the lands to educate the local pagans. They brought with him a wonderworking icon of the Apostle John the theologian, one of the many shrines transferred to Constantinople Church to the Russian land. This image became the main Shrine of the new monastery.
