Semushin Alexander. "Adam and Eve's steadfast attention to complicated laws of the universe"
Biblical topic of Adam and Eva interested many great artists. Among them were Michelangelo in Cappella Sistina, Masaccio, Lucas Cranach, Durer. The first from surrealists who gave his interpretation of it, was Jheronimus Bosch – in the left side of famous triptych “The Garden of Earthly Delights”. Lovely little animals in coitus pose and mysterious orange philosopher’s sphere in A.Semushin’s work, as it seems, is echo of said painting of Bosch, where there are a lot of such spheres in central part of triptych.
Judging by the fact that Adam and Eva are naked, Eva’s hair are curly, and, on the assumption of the painting’s name, they are depicted before expulsion from Eden, when the Good and Evil have not been cognized by them but laws of the universe provoke vivid interest. Transsurrealisitc method of A.Semushin allows to attach special philosophic depth and meditative expressiveness to the painting. The artist uses symbolism’s methods, attaching importance to context that turns rationality into mysterious allegory. He as thought reminds to modern positivism that world is not only obscure but also incognizable.
Mild harmonic color range, soft lines, elegant graphic tones add to said philosophic mood a bit of sentimentality.
