Artist’s biography
Victor Morozov was born in 1949 in the Nizhny Novgorod region. He started drawing and painting from the age of three, but he had no chance to get special education. After school he joined the Army, where he started to work as a painter. He painted interiors of premises, drew posters, panels and other types of visual propaganda.
After his army discharge he worked as an interior-decorator at the military plant in Nizhny Novgorod. At that period of time he became seriously interested in easel stamping, thanks to his friends from the Pavlovo art college.
He quickly finished his traineeship and got down to creation of monumental works (panels, decorative shields) with sophisticated processing of metal.
As for peculiarities of technology and skills of easel stamping, he studied all this by himself, with the help of special literature. He had been collecting books on art, history and mythology for many years and studied the history of art, costume, arms etc.
At the end of the 1980th Victor Morozov left the plant and completely devoted himself to easel stamping. By that time his main artistic and technical skills had already been set. He also defined a range of his favorite topics that received further development in his creative activity.
His main peculiarities are epic themes and diversity of works with a strong decorative component. They are: triptychs “Medieval ballad”, and “Battle of Kulikovo”, panels “Battle of the Catalaunian Fields”, “Farewell of King Arthur with Ginevra”, “Pharaoh and Princess”, “Song of Solomon”, “Nizhny Novgorod epic”, decorative shields “Old-Russian”, “Old Rus” etc.
All the above-mentioned and many other works were purchased by big state and commercial companies, such as the «NIZHNOVENERGO» OJSC, the Nizhny Novgorod Customs, Nizhny Novgorod Commercial and Oil banks and by famous private collectors such as E. Fiyaxel, E. Chaprack etc.
The first personal exhibition of V. Morozov was held in 1996 at the Armorial Hall of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair.
After that the Directorate of the Major Fair Building bought the “Nizhny Novgorod epic” panel on the recommendation of the Board of the Commonwealth of Artist.
For three decades of his creative activity the artist has been improving his technique. So in the 1979-80th sophisticated ornaments prevailed in his works, but later on he developed dynamics of plans and volumes thoroughly interwoven into the ornament. Victor Morozov achieved perfection in his craft. Metal is manageable in his hands as well as clay or plasticine in the hands of a sculptor that allows him to solve the most complicated artistic tasks. Nowadays in Russia there are no artists engaged in easel stamping who can rank with Morozov.
