Biography


Yuri Kulikov, an artist (1931-2017)
Yuri Kulikov was born on 16th of August, 1931. In 1953 he graduated from the Moscow Higher Art and Industry School, the so called “Stroganovka”. In 2006 he entered the Moscow Artists Union, in 2005 he became a member of the International Arts Fund.
Since 1957, he actively participated in many exhibitions in USSR, its republics, in Moscow and abroad (easel painting and graphics). He created monumental-decorative works, mosaics, mural paintings, reliefs) for public buildings in various cities of Russia. Yuri Kulikov is presented in the 2008 Moscow Artists Union directory.
The artist has much worked in Crimea (60-s and 70-s). He especially liked Feodosiya and Koktebel. He shared strong friendship with Maria Stepanovna Zabolotskaya, widow of the famous Russian poet Maksimillian Voloshin. She lived in Koktebel and Yuri Kulikov has spent long time creating many works in the poet’s memorial Íouse-museum. The artist has painted Voloshin’s portraits there and presented them as a gift to the Voloshin’s House-museum in Koktebel and to the Moscow library ¹61.
In the end of his life, the artist lived and worked in Alushta (Crimea). He died on May 1, 2017 and was buried in Koktebel.
The artist’s works are kept in the Ayvazovvsky Gallery (Feodosiya), in the Ministry of culture collections, in one of the Kioto’s city museums, in his daughter Nadezhda Broyko collection, other private collections.
